Experience

Research Engineer II, Northwestern University (Department of Physical Therapy & Human Movement Sciences)

Clinical trial software

Our team developed custom MATLAB applications for clinicians to operate robots and save data during PRALINE, a Phase IIb stroke rehabilitation trial.

Mechatronic device development

End-to-end electromechanical design, sensor sourcing, and microcontroller programming for new devices.

Sensor fusion & data acquisition

Developed software programs to stream data from load cells, torque sensors, encoders, pressure mats, EMG equipment, and dynamometers for research labs.

Troubleshooting & uptime

Communicated with physical therapists across clinical trial sites and tracked hardware/software issues to keep patient recruitment on track.

Current Projects

PRALINE: A Phase IIb Stroke Rehabilitation Trial With Longitudinal Tracking

This research is part of a Phase IIb randomized clinical trial, PRALINE - Progressive Abduction Loading Therapy in Acute/Subacute Stroke Recovery. This work involves robots at multiple locations such as the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital and the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences. My role in the clinical trial is a study engineer — and my responsibilities include custom MATLAB app development, microcontroller programming, electronics design, data analysis, CAD, software/hardware troubleshooting to minimize system downtime, and sourcing of hardware components for the robots.

This work is part of a pilot study at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. I worked on integrating the Delsys Python Application Programming Interface (API) into an existing MATLAB app, to stream and save wireless EMG signals that record muscle activity.
